Motives for Undertaking this Project: I have been lurking on Dr. Shannon Carter's websites for about a year and a half, eyeing projects undertaken by mostly underclassmen. They were impressive - these students knew about copyright and the Creative Commons licensing process! So when the opportunity developed to take this class, I was thrilled, as I have been wanting to share with my students how to have some control over their creations and how to use images and music responsibly and legally. This course has given me the resources and sources that I needed, as well as an introduction to the genre of digital storytelling.
Methodology: This four week course that involved identifying a story to tell, storyboarding it, gathering images and music, and using technology to address our dramatic question. Our products were the result of a supportive "consortium," and with the guidance of our instructor, Dr. Shannon Carter, and the feedback and encouragement from peers, reflection and editing were key in molding our final projects.
Equipment Used: Photos were taken by an Evo, as were the video clips. The soundtrack and images were composed and edited using MovieMaker. The Hewlett Packard Envy's speakers went out during the final editing and I lost the images in MM trying to move the project to another computer. Cue the whimper. Note to self: Drop Box for images.
My Revised Technology Goals - Post-Project:
We crawl before we walk.
I had the option to include my Reflections about the storytelling process, but felt that they were too focused on technical problems and did not reflect the spirit of this site.
However, I did want to post variations of the clips that I worked on. It shows an evolution to the final video project:

- Master the use of DropBox for images and videos
- Use the narration feature for a digital story
- Utilize a commercially-available clip from a video

Video chronicle to my final clip offered:

The first video is exciting...we are finding images that promote the story that we have developed on the storyboard:
The story has taken on a life of its own...the pictures tell it. I felt that I had included too many details...but the story was
beginning to be fleshed out.
beginning to be fleshed out.
While the title of this clip is Final Video, it indeed was not, but the images were more pleasing and I began to get a feel for the
pace of the piece and I began to appreciate what the story shared about my son. There is so much that goes on in the mind
of a creator and each picture and video, while seemingly simply a picture to an outside observer, can only somewhat appreciate
the story behind the story.

ABOUT MY FINAL VIDEO FOUND ON PROJECT PAGE:
By the last video that you see on my Project page, the pictures and music began to sync and although it was not perfect...I would've liked a more beautiful song with a crescendo when Leisl is presented to the viewers, for example, it did crescendo when the miracle of Bud's family and happiness is revealed. Because I was continuing the editing process, there are grammatical errors, audio issues and captions moving into more than one image...but it became my final video, after all, due to a loss of the project during technical issues. It will continue to be a treasure to me, as has been this experience.
